5th Grade: Christmas Comics!

posted Dec 12, 2011, 1:58 PM by mdreyfus@ctkschool.org   [ updated Dec 13, 2011, 9:31 AM ]
This project is designed to tap into the boundless ingenuity of 5th Graders and the boundless imaginations of 1st Graders.  It was inspired by Axe Cop: a web comic written by a 5 year old, and drawn by his 29 year old brother.

Steps
  1. Your story will star 3 characters: an elf, a snowman, and a reindeer.  Ask your 1st Grade buddy to make up a story with these characters.  Take notes on his or her ideas, and ask questions to flesh out the story.
  2. Type out all your notes on Text Edit.  Make sure they're written out as a story in paragraph form.
  3. Using comic life, start creating a comic version of the story.  You can get your images from three sources:
    1. Internet pictures
    2. Your own photographs (captured in comic life)
    3. Drawings made in Pixie (or any other drawing program)
  4. When finished, export your comic as a PDF file.  Name it <Your Number> <Your Name> Christmas Comic. Example: 00 Michael Dreyfus Christmas Comic
  5. Email it to Mr. Dreyfus (mdreyfus@ctkschool.org) as an attachment.
